METHOD FOR SELECTING SEEDS ACCORDING THE QUALITATIVE CHARACTERISTICS THEREOF

The invention relates to agriculture and can be used for industrial automatic item-by-item selection of seeds or roots of different plants according to the qualitative characteristics thereof and for preparing healthy and good-yielding seed material. Said qualitative characteristics are expressed in the form of viral and (or) bacterial and (or) fungal diseases, and (or) mechanical damage, and (or) an association with a species and (or) the size of the selected seed material. The inventive method consists in feeding the seed material item-by-item to an inspection area, exciting the luminescence thereof by ultraviolet radiation (UV), measuring the intensity of the self-luminescence of the seed material within a range of 315 to 650 nm simultaneously in several separated narrow spectral bands which correspond to the qualitative characteristics of the selected seeds or roots and in selecting them item-by-item in accordance with the ratio between the measured luminescence intensities.
