A compact hose drying system for fire service has one or more vertical supports each with a suction slot. The flat hose is pulled over the support and the suction slot removes excess water. A second support dries the other side of the hose. A spring loaded piston inside the slotted support is pulled down by the suction and has a tag running in the slot. The piston is pulled down until the tag touches the top of the hose. In this way the effective length of the slot is automatically matched to the width of the hose.
