The method for providing access to a selectable operating function of an operating menu in a transmitter/receiver of a transmission system such as a mobile telephone involves adapting at least one operating function menu list by taking up a selected operating function in dependence on how often that particular operating function is selected. This operating function then becomes the default displayed operating function on the menu list.
