Metal surfaces, particularly non-stick cooking utensils, which are to receive a PTFE coating, are given a first coating by applying a, preferably liquid, mixture containing PTFE, finely-sivided non-spherical metal particles and finely-divided particles of a metal oxide and/or a metal carbide. The PTFE coating is then applied. The coatings are resistant to abrasion and to scratching, and also to adhesion, particularly of foodstuffs. The heat conductivity of the coating is about the same as that of an unmodified PTFE resin coating. |
