A polymer soln. (I) claimed, contg. at least 5 wt.% of a polymer made up of (A) 15-95 mol.% units of formula (II), (B) 5-85 mol.% units of formula (III) and (C) 0-60 mol.% units of formula (IV) in a solvent system comprising 50-100 wt.% dimethylacetamide (DMA) and/or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (TCE) and 0-50 wt.% CH2Cl2; R1-R6 = alkyl or alkoxy, aryl, Cl or F; x = direct bond, O, S, SO2 (only if a or b is not =0), CO or CR7R8 (with R7, R8 = H, 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy, or aryl; R7, R8 = Me only if a or b is not = 0); Q, W = CO or SO2; Z = O or direct bond; p, q, r = 0 or 1; a, b, c, d, e, f = 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4. USE/ADVANTAGE - Soln. (I) is useful for bonding or coating (claimed). The soln. has a good shelf life and the solvent does not evaporate too quickly when the soln. is applied (contrast prior-art polyarylether-sulphone adhesive solns.); the soln. gives strong joints and is useful esp. for bonding chemically similar thermoplastics.
