Increased demands of train speed, passenger comfort and safety have meant that an axle by axle approach to wheel turning and reprofiling is no longer adequate. Smaller tolerances specified on the basis of a complete set of axles per vehicle require wheel maintenance to be based on the three stages: inspection, evaluation and the actual reprofiling process. Wheel maintanence is to be concentrated in installations having a combined inspection and underfloor turning capability permitting process optimisation on a per-vehicle basis. USE/ADVANTAGE - Closer tolerance railway wheel maintenance and greater efficiency.
