An arrangement contg. a bolt with a head and shaft has a strain gauge device for detecting mechanical stresses in the installed state by detecting changes in length. A threaded rod (5) guided with play in an axial bore (4) in the bolt (1) is supported at one rod end by a rigid rod head (6) and at the other end by a membrane-like plate (9) carrying the strain gauges. The plate is seated on a threaded casing (8) screwed onto the threaded end of the rod. USE/ADVANTAGE - For detecting length variations without adversely affecting the bolt or causing installation difficulties.
