An injection device for delivery of a therapeutic agent is provided that includes a glass syringe (150) with an integrally molded lug (164) extending radially from the syringe and a guard (102) slidably attached to the syringe. One set of detents (110, 164) on the guard and the lug of the syringe retain the guard in the retracted position. Another set of detents on the guard (102) and the lug (164) of the syringe retain the guard in the extended position. Another injection device for delivery of a therapeutic agent is provided that includes a glass syringe with an integrally molded disk (106) that extends radially from the syringe and a guard slidably coupled to the syringe. One set of detents on the guard and the integrally molded disk of the syringe retain the guard in a retracted position. Another set of detents on the guard and the integrally molded disk retain the guard in an extended position.
