APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SPOOLING OF WIRE CORES

An apparatus for binding a transportable wire core (2) including a binding table (12) is comprised of a table with sections in spaced relation sufficient to allow passage between them of a binding wire, a collapsible carrying spool (4) having base members (102) in spaced relation sufficient to allow passage between them of a binding wire, the spool (4) being positionable on the table (12) such that the base members (102) of the spool (4) and the sections of the table (12) are aligned. A plurality of binding wire guide track sections (16) are fixedly attached to the table (12) and in operative alignment between the spool base members (102) and between the table sections. A plurality of binding wire guide track sections (40) are translatable between a removed position such that a wire core (2) on a spool (4) may be positioned on the binding table (12) and an engaged position that operatively engages the binding wire guide track first sections (16) and so that the second binding wire guide track sections (40) operatively align between the sections of the table (12) and the base members (102) of the spool (4). A binding wire tying head (72) loops binding wire around the wire core (2) through the binding wire guide track sections (16, 40). The tying head (72) tensions the binding wire for release from the binding wire guide tracks (16, 40) and pass between the sections of the table (12) and base members (102) of the spool (4) whereby the binding wire is brought into direct contact with the wire core (2). Finally the binding wire tying head (72) cuts the binding wire to length and knots the ends of the wire together. The spool (4) is collapsible to aid with removal of the wire core (2) from it.
