Load-bearing ceiling element with a sandwich structure for roofing over a building comprises an upper layer (1), a lower layer (2), and a layer of insulating material (3) arranged between the upper and lower layers. The upper layer forming the outer side of the roof is at least water-tight and resistant to external influences. The ceiling element has a reinforcing structure with high mechanical resisting force and consists of at least one of the two layers. The cross-section of the ceiling element is essentially trapezoidal. The maximum height of the trapezium of the sandwich structure, depending on the bending moments produced during use, is at least a few centimeters. Preferred Features: The sites of the greatest mechanical stress are provided with additional reinforcement. The upper layer is pre-treated sheet steel and the lower layer is sheet steel or an asbestos cement sheet. The reinforcing structure lying between the upper and lower layers is made of steel.
