Paper manufacturing calander has position-lockable bowl glazing drum which may be locked in position and is fabricated from composite materials

A multi-drum calander (3) applies bowl glazing to a paper or carton web (2) and has a pull-out element (1) to adjust the web tension profile. The pull-out element may esp. locked in a non-rotating position and incorporates bending elements (4) which determine its current shape. The pull-out element is a beam with a smooth surface in contact with the paper or carton web. In another embodiment the pull-out element is a rotating drum made of composite material. The bending elements are activated by electrical induction and incorporate bending sensors (5) which measure bending. The drum has continually-operated paper/carton tensiometers.
