A percussive massager (20) is provided having a housing (22) supporting a motor (50) having an output shaft (54) rotatably driven thereby. At least on e positioning member (86) is movable connected to a percussion arm (74) which is attached to the housing (22) and operably connected to the motor output shaf t (54). At least two massage nodes (42) are operably connected to the percussi on arm (74), one of which being attached to the positioning member (86) to form a massage surface and move toward and away from the housing (22) to provide a percussive massage effect. A rotary mechanism is rotatable with respect to t he percussion arm (74) and drives the positioning member (86) toward and away from a central region (106) of the housing. An ancillary transmission has an output and an input for operably imparting rotation to the rotary mechanism such that the spacing of the massage nodes progessively increases and decreases.
