It is intended to provide drugs for treating liver diseases with the use of hollow protein nanoparticles, the therapeutic effects of which have been confirmed by animal experiments, and a treatment method with the use of these drugs. These drugs contain hollow protein nanoparticles made of a protein capable of forming particles (for example, hepatitis B virus surface antigen protein) in which a substance to be transferred into cells (for example, a herpes simplex virus-origin thymidine kinase gene for treating cancer) is encapsulated.
