PURPOSE:To improve a gain by cooling or temperature-controlling an optical fiber, an excitation source and an optical fiber coupler. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 3 is held from above and below by high thermal conductivity substances (e.g., copper plates), and secured to the substances 4 by fittings 31. The temperature of the substance 4 is measured by a temperature sensor 32. A current flowing from a device driving power source 34 to a device 33 is controlled in response to the temperature of the substance 4 sensed by the sensor 32. The heat from the device 33 is radiated by a heat exchanger such as a heat pipe 35, etc. Since the fiber 3 which exhibits a light amplifying action by a light excitation is cooled to improve its gain, the fiber 3 on the substance 4 can be cooled so as to obtain a desired gain. |
