PURPOSE:To obtain a high-pressure sodium lamp with the stable characteristics by melting and breaking a cadmium container through heating after enclosing in a luminescent tube a capsule-like cadmium container containing amalgam or amalgam and starting rare gas. CONSTITUTION:An amalgam (sodium-mercury) 7 or this amalgam and starting rare gas, which is to be enclosed in the luminescent tube of a high-pressure sodium lamp, is enclosed into a cadmium container 6, which is shaped into a capsule 8. This capsule 8 is enclosed into a luminescent tube bulb 1. After that, by melting and breaking the cadmium container 6, the enclosed materials are brought out. In this way, the reaction of amalgam upon air, water, etc. and the adsorption of impurities prevent the impurities from being brought into the luminescent tube, or further the enclosure of starting rare gas can be simplified and the prescribed enclosing pressure can be surely obtained. Furthermore, during the tube end sealing process in manufacturing a luminescent tube, it is possible to prevent the vanishing of enclosed amalgam due to vaporization through radiant heat, and avoid the deterioration of the lamp characteristics. |
