A High Definition Television Set (HDTV) contains an MPEG-2 video and audio decompression codec which can be used to decode suitably encoded computing images from a remote server (a computer servicing a large number of users). While the video quality is acceptable due to the high definition resolution, there is a delay associated with the compression and decompression of the video as well as a latency due to the multi-user nature of the server platform. This video delay makes the normal keyboard mouse interaction with the program unusable. I am proposing a new user interface using a local mouse-keyboard with limited local processing to allow the standard application programs "cut and paste" feature to be modified at the system level to achieve a new and versatile user interface without modifying the applications programs in any way. Blocks of data cut from a document would be seat to the HDTV for editing in a local buffer prior to being returned to a user defined point in the original document (at the server). The server would process the changes, update the video image which would then be re-compressed prior to being resent to the HDTV set. The video image would be displayed (after decompression) in a window above the "cut and paste" window on the HDTV set.
