<p>A sharpener for a carpenter's pencil (10) that creates a profile shape (24, 26) desired by carpenters rather than a conical point. A housing (30) of two identical halves (30a, 30b) holds sliding guides (44, 46) in the openings of oppositely directed recesses with convergent walls (54a, 54b) and (58a, 58b) respectively. Blades (62) are held at specified angles on the walls. The pencil is slid laterally back and forth in guide member (44) advancing along its axis as material is removed from the narrow side (20) by fixed blades shaving material at an angle. The pencil is then rotated 90° and inserted in the other guide (46) and moved back and forth advancing along its axis as material is removed from the wide side (18) by fixed blades in a similar manner.</p> |
