To control the operation of a melt spinning assembly, with at least one spinning pump (3) with a pump drive (4) and a filament winder (14), the pump drive is set before working to an appropriate speed by the control unit (20) for splicing and joining a filament. After a filament join, the pump drive speed is restored to the working level where the filament (1) is wound into a bobbin. The intermediate stages for the filaments between the spinneret (5) and the winder are also adjusted to allow for filament splicing and joining.
