摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer recording medium excellent in thermal transfer properties at the times of high density printing and high speed printing and imparting a printing image of high resolving power even to paper low in smoothness, in the thermal transfer recording medium wherein a release layer, a hot-melt ink layer and an overcoat layer are provided on a heat- resistant support, by specifying the sum thickness of the respective layers. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer recording medium is set to 3.1mum or less in its total thickness and has a 1.0-2.0mum thick release layer 2, a 0.8-1.4mum thick ink layer and a 0.3mum or less thick overcoat layer 4. An adhesive layer 5 may be provided in order to improve the adhesiveness of the release layer 2, the ink layer 3 and the overcoat layer 4 to a base material 1. The content of carbon in the ink layer 3 and the release layer 2 is pref. 10-15% by wt. of the total solid of the overcoat layer, the ink layer and the release layer. Since the colorant contained in the release layer is transferred to the upper layer part of the image of transfer paper after printing and the upper layer part is uneven, the surface area of an image part is large and a high density printing image is formed.
