Network capacity management system

A capacity management system is provided for managing the set up of connection paths between nodes of interconnected network domains. Each domain has a domain management system for setting up connection paths between nodes within the domain in response to service orders. Data is stored defining relationships between a plurality of connection sites in different domains, interconnectable for data communications, and when a connection path is to be set up, a subset of the interconnection sitesis selected on the basis of the relationship data. Route costs are determined for connection paths between the sites to be connected, corresponding to each of the subset of interconnection sites, and a preferred connection path can then be selected on the basis of at least the determined route costs.
