The master cylinder has hydraulic-damping unit (48) for damping return of a piston head to bear against a thrust ring. The hydraulic-damping unit has a sealed shut off unit (41) placed between a longitudinal end of a supply duct (24) and one of exhaust ducts (50, 54, 58, 60, 72) through which brake fluid flow from the supply chamber (14) to the supply duct (24).
