Optical switch and method of manufacturing the same

An optical switch includes a polymer sheet (1) having an optical waveguide (3) extending linearly therein, keep plates (2a, 2b) holding the polymer sheet (1) therebetween, and driving means. The polymer sheet (1) has a notch (4) provided to traverse the optical waveguides (3), and the keep plates (2a, 2b) each have an opening (5) at a position corresponding to the notch (4). The opening (5) has an elongated shape along the extending direction of the notch (4) at least on a surface of the keep plate (2a, 2b) in contact with the polymer sheet (1). The driving means is for selecting a course of light by switching open and closed states of the notch (4) by pushing and not pushing the polymer sheet (1) via the opening (5). <IMAGE>
