The present invention relates to a method for tracking transitions in a bit stream (10) of a signal, said method comprising the steps of taking a first sample (An) of said bit stream (10) at a first sampling point (tAn) of a first sampling sequence (Sn), taking a second sample (Bn) of said bit stream (10) at a second sampling point (tBn) of said first sampling sequence (Sn), and taking a third sample (Cn) of said bit stream (10) at a third sampling point (tCn) of said first sampling sequence (Sn), wherein said second sampling point (tBn) is adjusted so that within a first time period (TAB), defined by said first and said second sampling points (TAB = tBn - tAn), the number (NAB) of transitions in said bit stream (10) is equal to the number (NBC) of transitions within a second time period (TBC), defined by said second and said third sampling points (TBC = tCn - tBn). <IMAGE>
