A composite container (10) is provided for vacuum packaging of products (P) is disclosed having a generally tubular body portion (12) having opposite ends and an inner surface (13). A liner (30) is attached to the body portion (12) for receiving the products (P) inside the liner (30) and the body portion (12) of the container (10). The liner (30) has a memory and is able to move between a position adjacent the body portion (12) to a position about the products (P) placed therein when a vacuum is applied to the products (P). When the vacuum is removed from the products (P), the liner (30) automatically returns from the position about the products (P) to the position adjacent the body portion (12) so that the products (P) can be easily removed.
