An axle unit (1; 11) for a vehicle is provided which comprises a hub (2; 12) that installs thereon a vehicle wheel (VW) and is rotatable together with the vehicle wheel, a hub bearing (3; 13) that is mounted on a vehicle body (VB) and rotatably supports the hub (2; 12), a rotary encoder (5; 15) that is attached concentrically to the hub and is rotatable together with the hub, a cover (6; 16) that is made of a non-magnetic material and covers an open end of the hub bearing (3; 13) that is located on the side thereof where the rotary encoder is provided, a rotational speed sensor (7; 17) that has a detecting section (7a; 17a) that is made of a magnetic material and disposed outside the cover (6; 16) and so as to face the rotary encoder (5; 15), and a magnetic body that is provided at a portion of the cover (6; 16) that is placed between the detecting section (7a; 17a) of the rotational speed sensor (7; 17) and the rotary encoder (5; 15).
