The method involves fixing contact components on a transport strip (1). The components are forwarded and manipulated through the transport strip by respective tools. The transport strip is reduced in thickness by deformation in a region (8) between two adjacent parts so that spacing between the parts is increased. The deformation is done by rolling and embossing the transport strip over an entire width. An Independent claim is also included for a transport strip with parts for electrical plug connectors.
