Bar knife (30) comprises a shaft (31), and an active part (32) having a main free surface (33), a secondary free surface (34), a face (35) and a head cutting edge (39) in the head region (K). At least one of the surfaces has a main cutting edge (38) with a geometry which is active during a machining process. The main cutting edge has a rounded end radius which is smaller than the rounded end radius of the head cutting edge. An Independent claim is also included for a process for processing a bar knife. Preferred Features: The bar knife is made of hard metal.
