: To prevent errors in the velocity measurement in aircraft by means of Doppler radar due to the radar receiver being locked to the back scatter from side lobes of a plurality of main lobes radiated in a fixed radiation geometry, it is proposed to compare the inertial vertical velocity component (VIZ) obtained via a baro-inertial control loop with the vertical velocity component (VDZ) determined from the Doppler frequencies and to derive from the comparison an error detection signal. On the occurrence of the error signal, the inertial vertical velocity component can then replace the corresponding velocity component supplied from the Doppler system whilst the horizontal velocity components can be determined, for example, from the last calculated wind and the corresponding air speed components, for as long as the error signal lasts. |
