The present invention is directed towards novel compounds that are effective inhibitors of integrins, particularly alphaIIbbeta3 or alphav integrins such as alphavbeta3 and alphavbeta5. One embodiment of the present invention comprises a compound of formula (I) or formula (II) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate, or metabolic precursor thereof.
