<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating an exhaust gas containing n-butyl acetate and nitrogen oxides inexpensively and effectively. <P>SOLUTION: In the treatment method for the exhaust gas containing an alkyl carboxylate compound and nitrogen oxides, the exhaust gas is heated to 700°C or higher in the absence of oxygen under a reduction condition or passed through a bed heated to 350-550°C of a catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxides to reduce nitrogen oxides. Thereafter, oxygen is added to the treated gas in an amount not less than a number of moles necessary for oxidizing combustible gas in the treated gas and this treated gas is passed through the bet heated to 350-450°C of the catalyst for oxidizing the combustible gas to oxidize the combustible gas in the treated gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
