PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the optical density of an image printed by electrocoagulation. SOLUTION: A print head 16 has a row of negative electrodes 18 and forms dots composed of colored coagulated colloid on the positive electrode plane 12 coated with an olefin substance by electrically coagulating colloid contained in ink. Quantity of colored coagulated colloid being attached onto the positive electrode plane 12 coated with an olefin substance is increased by applying a trigger signal, consisting of at least two continuous pulses having a voltage in the range of -1.5 V to -40 V, pulse duration in the range of 15 nsec to 6μsec and a time interval at least equal to the pulse duration, to a selected negative electrode 18. Consequently, each dot of colored coagulated colloid is formed without generating an undesired gas at the negative electrode 18 thus increasing the optical density of each dot and a resulting image.
