<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reformer capable of producing a hydrogen-containing gas while suppressing the increase of the temperature by a combustion reaction and the possibility of forming a detonating gas and a reforming method. <P>SOLUTION: The reformer is provided with a gaseous starting material supply pipeline opened to a catalyst layer to supply a gaseous starting material which can be mixed with steam and a gaseous oxidizing agent supply pipeline opened in the catalyst layer to supply a gaseous starting material which can be mixed with steam and each of the opening of the gaseous starting material supply pipeline and the opening of the gaseous oxidizing supply pipeline is provided at a position to quickly mix the gaseous starting material and gaseous oxidizing agent respectively flowing out from the openings with each other. The gaseous starting material is supplied inside the catalyst layer, the gaseous oxidizing agent is supplied separately inside the catalyst layer and steam is previously supplied to one of the gaseous starting material and the gaseous oxidizing agent. Then the gaseous starting material and the gaseous oxidizing agent are quickly mixed and brought into contact with a catalyst forming the catalyst layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
