PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device for adjusting an assist force so as to well follow a car speed just since running start and prevent a driver from feeling uncomfortableness. SOLUTION: When first and second pulses are inputted from a car speed sensor just after the running start, the lowest car speed in a map is set as a car speed for control (step S60). In calculating the car speed for control by averaging last four instant car speeds, while four inter-pulse times are not detected just after the running start, the lowest car speed (2 km/h) in the map is used and the car speed for control is calculated by averaging (steps S90, S120, and S150).
