PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for detecting contents having a simple construction capable of exactly detecting the content in high sensitivity. SOLUTION: A predetermined detecting mark 14 is given to an instruction 12 or the content to be housed in a packaging box 10 by applying ink or coating containing ferromagnetic powder showing abrupt magnetic reversion by an alternating magnetic field. The detecting apparatus is equipped with a magnetizing coil 24 capable of giving the alternating magnetic field exceeding the coercive force of the detecting mark 14 to the packaging box 10, a detecting coil 26 or a magnetic sensor detecting a signal by the magnetic reversion of the detecting mark 14, a comparing instrument 32 comparing a signal from the detecting coil 26 with a predetermined standard value and a display means 34 displaying the existence of the instruction 12 based on the comparison result from the comparing instrument 32.
