PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diamond component and a production method thereof which enables a shortcoming in the case of forming a three-dimensional structure from a planar diamond film in the conventional technique to be dissolved by directly forming the three-dimensional structure when a diamond film is formed by a vapor phase synthesis, and to provide an optical device using the diamond component and the production method thereof. SOLUTION: When the diamond film is formed by a vapor phase synthesis method, the diamond film 2 is formed not only on the upper surface of a base material 1 but also on side surfaces and is separated from the base material after film forming and, thereby, the diamond component of a three-dimensional shape having a flat plate and sidewalls on the surrounding thereof. In the diamond component, the existence of the sidewalls not only acts advantageously on the grinding, etc., but also enhances the mechanical strength as a member. Further, the utilization of the sidewalls facilitates the joining with the optical device to which the diamond component is incorporated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
