PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press forming method which prevents surface roughening of a die protection film with respect to the repeated use of the film under high temperature and high pressure in the forming and makes the life of dies longer. SOLUTION: The press forming apparatus for a glass base plate is provided with upper and lower die parts having protective films on forming surfaces, arranges a glass blank between the upper and lower die parts and forms the glass base plate by means of the press. Therein, the press has a control means which controls the pressurizing force in such a manner that the extending speeds in radial directions of the glass blank become almost uniform.
