PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer which can make an illuminating mechanism compact by making the illuminating mechanism for ultraviolet rays a relatively low illuminance and can suppress generation of ozone. SOLUTION: The inkjet printer has a chamber structure 10 with a chamber 13b inside, a carriage 3 arranged inside the chamber structure 10, an inert gas supply means for supplying an inert gas to the chamber 13b, and an oxygen sensor set in the chamber 13b. A plurality of heads for discharging ink drops highly reactive to the oxygen towards a recording medium 99 are set at the carriage 3, and an UV light source is set between the heads. The inert gas is supplied into the chamber 13b and at the same time, an oxygen concentration in the chamber 13b is detected to maintain a desired inert gas ambience. The illuminating mechanism can be made compact and also the generation of ozone can be restricted accordingly. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
