<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect an end of a paper and to judge the kind of the paper without being affected by variation, deterioration due to staining of elements, by setting a threshold by following an output of a sensor or controlling a quantity of a radiation light, thereby improving the detection accuracy in an image forming apparatus having a function of judging the position shift and the kind of the paper by using a lateral register sensor. <P>SOLUTION: When the position shift of the paper is detected, the threshold is set by a peak hold means to make it to follow an output level. In the case where the judgement of the paper for setting the threshold to a setting value is performed by a radiation light quantity control means, an analog output is set to be one hundred % of a reference and the threshold is controlled. During an initializing time period, the quantity of the radiation light is controlled so as to set the predetermined threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
