PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating knob structure of a shift lever with a high flexibility in shape. SOLUTION: A press button 3 is arranged to come in and out freely on an operating knob 2 to release the lock of a detent mechanism. A wire 13 is wound around a guide roller 10 and the end of the wire is locked to a leg 7 at the lower end of the press button 3. The pressing direction of the press button 3 and the hauling direction of the wire 13 are made parallel with each other to transform the pressing stroke of the press button 3 into the haul stroke of the wire 13 whose direction is reverse to that of the stroke of the press button 3.
