PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly convenient recording device capable of realizing a recording operation having high reliability even when a user does not input information related to a type of a recording medium. SOLUTION: The recording device comprises a feeding mechanism for feeding the recording medium loaded on a recording medium loading part, a recording means for applying a recording operation to the recording medium fed by the feeding mechanism, and a recording medium determining means for determining a type of the recording medium loaded on the recording medium loading part. Before the feeding mechanism performs the feeding operation or when a load detecting means detects the load of the recording medium, the recording device makes the recording medium determining means determine the type of the recording medium and controls an operation related to the recording to the recording medium based on the type of the recording medium stored in a storing means.
