<p>PURPOSE:To provide a precedent vehicle detector which can accurately detect a distance to a precedent vehicle, its direction and relative speed computed on the alteration in the distance. CONSTITUTION:A precedent vehicle detector has a reflecting body detecting means 1, such as a laser rader, to detect a distance and a direction from a vehicle itself to a reflecting body by radiating and receiving an electromagnetic wave, an image recognizing means 5 to detect the precedent vehicle by processing the image of a photographing means 3 such as a television camera, and a sweeping direction altering means 7 to alter the sweeping direction of the electromagnetic wave in the reflecting body detecting means 1 on the result of image processing in the image recognizing means 5. Thus the detector is composed so as to sweep only the direction where a precedent vehicle exists.</p> |
