PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base station apparatus for realizing an optimum configuration of an antenna through adaptive arrangement of antenna elements so as to efficiently use the resources in a base station and increase the channel capacity of the communication system to which the base station apparatus belongs. SOLUTION: An arrival direction detection section 111 detects the direction of a mobile station in each sector from the output of an inverse spread section 104. A traffic detection section 112 detects the number of mobile stations (traffic) existing in each sector from an output of the arrival direction detection section 111. An antenna control section 113 controls an antenna arrangement section 102 to adaptively move the antenna on the basis of information outputted from the traffic detection section 112. The antenna arrangement section 102 has a function of moving the arrangement of the antennas 101-1 to 101-12 depending on an instruction of the antenna control section 113 and switches the signals received by the antennas 101-1 to 101-12 and outputs the selected signal to a transmission reception commonality section 103.
