The connecting rod (1) is made from an initial cylindrical metal slug that is heated to 750 - 900 deg C and formed into a pre-blank by lengthwise distribution of its material to give big and little ends. The pre-blank is shaped between a first set of matrices to distribute the material in lengthwise and transverse directions to make a blank without burrs. This is followed by shaping between a second set of matrices to give the basic shape of a connecting rod, ready for boring to make the holes (3, 7) in the big (2) and little (6) ends. |
