<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position designating operation device for indicating an optional position on a screen displayed on a TV receiver through the use of an input device such as a mouse, and also to provide the TV receiver, a position designating information encoding method, its program, a position designating information decoding method, and its program. <P>SOLUTION: The position designating operation device 2 includes: a key depression signal encoding means 21; and a key depression signal transmitting means 22. Coordinate information for indicating the optional position on the screen inputted from a position designating input means 1 by using absolute coordinates, mobile information indicated by relative coordinates, or selection indicating information for selecting a selectable area existing at the position on the screen and designated at present, etc., are encoded by correspondence to the time sequential pattern of a key depression signal.
