<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic appliance to which a data area can be expanded and added in order according to need when performing the application after installing of the application is completed. <P>SOLUTION: An IC card 101 is provided with area allocation means (201, S303) and area definition means (201, S204). When securing a data area defined within an application program #1 first, the area allocation means (201, S303) allocate all the null areas 43a continued on a nonvolatile memory as an application data area #1 without regard to the sizes of the defined data area to expand the data area in the case of performing the application #1.
