PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article kind determining method for a reflecting article on a traveling road, capable of precisely determining the kind of an article in front of the own vehicle. SOLUTION: The relative speed in regard to the own vehicle of detection target articles F1 to O1 detected in a first detecting process is measured. Of the detection target articles F1 to O1, the detection target articles existing in a predetermined distance are affixed with the same labels. The detection target articles affixed with the same labels are determined as an article group belonging to the same article or an article group of a similar kind. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
