PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly cope with a change of process, alternation of generation of process and a change of a design value. SOLUTION: According to this layout design method, a plurality of circuit part data (2) are prepared including a circuit description data of a functional block and a parameter for defining the attribute of the functional block, a functional block is separated from a design object circuit 3, and a parameter 4 is given to a parameter of the corresponding circuit part data so that the separate functional block satisfies a required attribute to generate layout pattern data of the functional block. The circuit part data defining the functional block as a primitive cell can define the attribute (e.g. a pattern size and a driving capability) of the functional block according to the preset value of the parameter. Since the finished layout pattern is not a simple set of fixed patterns, a change of process or the like can be quickly coped with in the design object circuit. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
