PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reading even an original whose length exceeds the length of an original platen as one original, reading a plurality of small-sized originals at the same time, and processing them as separate originals. SOLUTION: An image of an original read by a line scanner is divided into a plurality of images by division lines in parallel with the subscanning direction, and the image reader outputs to a hard copy or a document storage device as separate images, or images of one original comprising a plurality of pages, or images of one page wherein the division parts are coupled in a prescribed order.
