<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the direction of the face of a person in an image by cutting out a face area from the face image of the person in the image. <P>SOLUTION: This time series image processor includes an image take part 0, a face area specifying part 1 and a face direction detecting part 2, whereby the face area can be stably specified. The image take part 0 obtains a time series image (time varying image series) of a scene. In the face area specifying part 1, an inter-image movement detecting part 12 detects the movement of the respective pixels of the time series image, and a candidate area extract part 13 estimates the movement of a object from the distribution of movement of the object and the reliability of the movement and specifies the area having the same movement as a candidate for the object area. In an object area deciding part 14, the face area is decided by performing statistical analysis on the coordinates in the image contained in the candidate for the object area.
