PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve accurate error diffusion processing with high-speed operation and high throughput. SOLUTION: Each of a pair of error diffusion arithmetic circuits 901 and 902 captures a pair of pixels continued in the main scanning direction of image data as a unit in the same clock timing and applies prescribed error diffusion processing to a concerned pixel. In one error diffusion arithmetic circuit 901, the value of an error from an output value in quantizing the concerned pixel to be operated first is outputted to the other error diffusion arithmetic circuit 902 within the same clock timing. The error diffusion arithmetic circuits 901 and 902 are provided with error FIFOs 922 and 932 for holding the value of said error and in order to use the value for error diffusion processing in the next clock timing, said error diffusion processing to the plurality of continuous pixels is simultaneously performed in parallel.
